‘Up For T’Cup’ – Our First ‘Special’ Of 2025 Is Andy Blair!

Andy walks onto the pitch at LD24

We are delighted to announce that our ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues’ first home game of 2025 will be our popular former midfielder Andy Blair! Andy who regularly watches the Sky Blues will be hoping to see F.A.Cup progress under floodlights next Saturday (k.o.6pm) against another old club Sheffield Wednesday. Andy will also be hoping the Sky Blues can put behind them that shock 2-1 defeat at Norwich City last time out when the Canaries scored two in added on time to take all the points!

The Scottish born, Bedworth bred, longstanding CCFPA member is no stranger to being our match-day ‘special’ being a fairly frequent visitor at the CBS.  Andy is a past CCFPA Golf Day champion and regularly attends Legends Day.

Andy in the Sky Blue

The Sky Blues apprentice earned a winning D1 debut v. Birmingham in October 1978 and gained 5 Scotland U21 caps (one goal) at CCFC.  The midfielder made 112 Sky Blue appearances (scoring nine goals) before moving on to local rivals, Aston Villa in 1981. A European Cup winner at Villa, Andy also played for Wolves and Barnsley on loan. He is well known to supporters of both clubs facing each other this evening having played for today’s opponents, the Owls, (1984-86) before returning to Aston Villa again from 1986-88. Then followed a spell with Northampton Town (1988-89) and (briefly) in Malta with Naxaar Lions. On his return to the UK Andy returned to play for a number of English non-league clubs.

Scott’s Stars with Andy Blair at GD24

Andy runs a local chain of sports and school wear outlets and supplies CCFPA’s popular official ties. Andy sadly lost one son, Ross, to cancer in 2017 but thoroughly enjoyed the substantial football career of son Matty up to 2022 when injury forced his retirement whilst at Cheltenham Town.

Look out for Andy around the CBS Arena main stand supporters lounges pre kick-off for Q&As with club host, CCFPA and ex Sky Blue defender ‘Harry’ Roberts. No, doubt, CCFPA Chairman Billy Bell will also get him up on stage in Lady Gs for some entertaining post-match analysis.

Oggy in the Press Box

No doubt our member, true CCFC legend, Steve Ogrizovic will be at the game doing his usual stint as part of the live match-day commentary and analysis team for BBC CWR broadcasting to all those who cannot make the game (though there is sure to be another bumber CBS crowd)! We will announce in due course the names of other CCFPA members and CCFC ‘stars of the past’ who plan to attend the game.
