Another Sky Blue Legend In Print: Cyrille Remembers

On Friday last (10th September 2010) Association Member, Sky Blues’ Legend and F.A. Cup hero Cyrille Regis MBE launched his new autobiography ‘My Story’ (in collaboration with Chris Green)*. Cyrille covers the whole of his career from his discovery at non League Hayes then bought as a teenager in 1977 by West Bromwich Albion where he served with much distinction and became an England International before being brought to Highfield Road as a major signing by Bobby Gould for over a quarter of a million pounds in October 1984. (Bobby – another Association Member- is also launching his own autobiography at Coventry Rugby Club early next month).

Cyrille made over 280 first team appearances for CCFC scoring 66 goals for the Sky Blues and most memorably contributing both goals and a forceful presence to the victorious F.A.Cup team of 1986-7.  Though he moved on a free to midland rivals Aston Villa in 1991 and thence to Wolves in 1993 Cyrille reveals in the 258-page hard-back how cash strapped City tried to line up a cut-price £40000 move to Wolves in 1985.  Who knows whether our lone FA Cup success 2 years later would have happened if this deal had gone through!

Cyrille wound down his career with short spells at Wycombe Wanderers and Chester before rejoining the Baggies in the late 1990s in a coaching capacity. Seemingly he did not enjoy this aspect of the game and for many years since has acted as a successful football agent.

*’My Story’ is published by Andre Deutsch at cost of £18.99
